Data Center Fall Protection Brochure
How Tritech protects data center roofs and yards: non-penetrating guardrail, access platforms, crossovers, stairs and ladder safety for mechanical equipment.
What’s inside
- An annotated data center roof showing where each fall protection system goes
- Non-penetrating guardrail that protects roof edges without breaching the membrane
- Access platforms and step-overs for rooftop HVAC units, ducts and conduit runs
- Crossover platforms, access stairs and staircase guardrail at level changes
- Ladder safety systems for tanks and ground-based guardrail at yard equipment
- Photos of rooftop stairs, platforms and guardrail over pipe and cable runs
Data center roofs are crowded with equipment technicians must reach
A data center roof carries chillers, air handlers, duct runs, conduit and piping, and the yard around it adds generators, tanks and mechanical platforms. Technicians service that equipment on a schedule that cannot wait for a scaffold, often near an unprotected edge or stepping over live runs. This brochure is for facility, mission-critical and construction teams responsible for that access.
Each exposure point gets a defined system, not a blanket fix
The centerpiece is an annotated rendering of a typical facility. It maps nine systems to the places they belong:
- Non-penetrating guardrail along roof edges, so the membrane stays intact
- Ground-based guardrail around yard equipment
- Access platforms at rooftop units
- Step-overs across ducts and conduit
- Crossover platforms over piping
- Access stairs and staircase guardrail between levels
- Ladder safety systems on tanks
- MEP supports carrying mechanical, electrical and plumbing runs
Project photos show the same components in service: platforms beside rooftop units, stairs and crossovers over pipe and cable trays, and guardrail along long roof edges.
One company is accountable from design to certification
Tritech has engineered, supplied, installed and certified fall protection since its first system in 1993, working from headquarters in Orlando, Florida and Calgary, Alberta with install crews across North America. Through its Partnership in Safety Program, owners and contractors work with Tritech’s engineers during early planning, which matters on a data center where roof layouts are set long before commissioning. Tritech sits on both ANSI and CSA boards, and every system it designs meets or exceeds occupational health and safety standards.

Questions about this brochure
Why use non-penetrating guardrail on a data center roof?
Data center roofs protect critical equipment, so every penetration is a potential leak. Non-penetrating guardrail sits on weighted bases instead of being fastened through the membrane, which lets you protect the roof edge without compromising the waterproofing. The brochure shows it along the main roof perimeter and at secondary roof levels of a typical facility.
What fall protection does a data center roof need?
The brochure maps the typical needs: guardrail at open edges, access platforms at rooftop mechanical units, step-overs and crossover platforms where ducts, conduit or pipes block a walkway, access stairs and staircase guardrail between levels, and ladder safety systems on tanks. Ground-based guardrail protects yard equipment, and MEP supports carry services clear of walking paths.
Can Tritech work with a data center project before construction?
Yes. Tritech’s Partnership in Safety Program brings owners and contractors together with its engineering and design team during early planning. On a data center that means access routes, platforms and guardrail can be worked out while the roof layout is still being set, rather than retrofitted around equipment that is already installed.
Who designs and installs Tritech data center systems?
Tritech handles the whole scope itself: engineering, design, supply, installation and certification. The company installed its first system in 1993, has headquarters in Orlando, Florida and Calgary, Alberta, and installs across North America, with sales offices in cities including Chicago, Houston, Phoenix and Toronto.
