Self-Closing Safety Gates
A Spring-Loaded Barrier for Fall Prevention & Access Control
Spring-Loaded Closure
Equipped with a durable spring mechanism, the gate automatically closes, ensuring peace-of-mind, and compliance with OSHA’s requirement for continuous fall protection at openings.
Adjustable & Easy to Install
Designed for various opening sizes, these gates can be easily mounted on guardrails, ladders, stairways, and platform entry points without special tools or welding.
OSHA & ANSI Compliance
Meets OSHA and ANSI requirements, ensuring regulatory compliance in industrial, commercial, and rooftop environments.
PROBLEMS WE SOLVE
Keeping Access Points Safe from Falls
Ladder openings, stairwells, and rooftop entry points are among the most overlooked fall hazards in workplaces. A self-closing safety gate ensures automatic protection at these high-risk areas, preventing worker injury without requiring active engagement.

Answers to
Key Questions
Are guardrails required at roof hatches?
A roof hatch is an opening in the walking-working surface, and OSHA requires ladderway and hatch openings to be guarded (29 CFR 1910.28(b)(3)). Self-closing gates are a recognized means of guarding access openings: the gate closes behind the worker automatically, so the barrier never depends on someone remembering to clip a chain or swing a bar back into place. A fixed guardrail around the hatch with a self-closing gate at the ladder side keeps the opening protected whether the cover is up or down.
What are the OSHA standards for mezzanines?
Under general industry rules, any open side or edge of a mezzanine 4 feet or more above the floor below must be protected (29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)), and guardrails must meet the criteria of 29 CFR 1910.29(b). Ladderway and access openings onto the mezzanine must be guarded as well (29 CFR 1910.28(b)(3)), which is where self-closing gates earn their place: they keep the opening protected between every trip up and down.
What is the OSHA requirement for the top guardrail?
The top rail must sit 42 inches, plus or minus 3 inches, above the walking-working surface and withstand 200 pounds of outward or downward force (29 CFR 1910.29(b)). A self-closing gate that fills a gap in a guardrail run is built with rails at those same heights, so the protection is continuous across the opening.
What are the 4 types of fall protection?
Fall protection is usually grouped by the hierarchy of controls: elimination, passive prevention (guardrails, covers, and other physical barriers that need no worker action), active fall restraint or fall arrest (harness-and-anchor systems), and administrative controls (warning lines, training, and procedures). A self-closing gate is passive prevention: once installed, it does its job for every worker without training, attention, or effort. Tritech supplies and installs self-closing gates on hatches, ladders, mezzanines, and platform openings as part of complete fall protection systems.
